The Retro Dodge Challenger

Model Strengths: Dodge Avenger

Fuel efficiency; standout exterior styling; innovative interior features.

Model Changes: Dodge Avenger

The new-for-2008, front-wheel-drive Dodge Avenger mid-size sedan, which is mechanically similar to the Chrysler Sebring, borrows its look from the larger Charger sedan and replaces the Stratus in Dodge's lineup.

Model Value: Dodge Avenger

The 2008 Dodge Avenger, a mid-size sedan that competes with the Chevy Malibu, Ford Fusion, and Toyota Camry, among others, goes on sale initially priced $1,605 below the comparable outgoing Dodge Stratus, according to the automaker. While the base price is lower, the Avenger has expanded standard-feature content including side air bags, an alarm, and the innovative Chill Zone cooler system. Several options, such as the MyGig audio/navigation system and heated/cooled cup holder, also differentiate it feature-wise from other mid-size sedans.

Model Overview: Dodge Avenger

Replacing the Stratus in Dodge's 2008 model lineup, the Avenger brings a completely different, more upright and angular appearance that borrows styling cues from the big Charger sedan and Dodge's muscle-car past. But the Avenger's appeal goes beyond outward appearance; the model offers several innovative interior features not otherwise seen among its peers.Examples of the standout interior features available include the Chill Zone, a cooled storage compartment that can hold up to four beverage cans, a heated/cooled cup holder, stain-resistant seat fabric, LED directional interior lighting, and MP3 play compatibility on all audio systems. There's also a rear-seat video system, a Bluetooth UConnect hands-free cell phone interface, and an audio system called MyGig, which is paired with a navigation system and 20-gigabyte hard drive for storing music and images, or recording voice memos. The Avenger is available in three different models: the basic SE, upscale SXT, and sporty R/T. The SE and SXT come with a standard 173-horsepower, 2.4L four-cylinder engine that brings up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway, according to EPA estimates. Optional on the SXT is a 189-horsepower, 2.7L V6 engine, which has flex-fuel capacity for operating on any mix of gasoline and ethanol up to E85 (85 percent ethanol). Both the 2.4L and 2.7L engines are paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. A 235-horsepower, 3.5L V6 is standard on the R/T and is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick manual control. All-weather all-wheel drive is optional on the R/T; all other Avengers come with front-wheel drive. The base SE model comes surprisingly well equipped, with standard keyless entry, cruise control, the Chill Zone, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Top R/T models include leather upholstery, power heated fold-away side mirrors, and automatic climate control.Front seat-mounted side air bags and side-curtain air bags that cover front and rear occupants are standard on all Avenger models. Anti-lock brakes are standard on all but the base SE, while stability control is only standard on the R/T.

Model Strengths: Dodge Charger

Ride and comfort; trunk space; better-than-expected fuel efficiency; performance to rival big European sport sedans (SRT8).

Model Changes: Dodge Charger

For 2008, the Dodge Charger gets a refreshed interior, with a redesigned instrument panel, plus new seat material and new soft-touch surfaces used on armrests, the center console, and door trim. The Charger R/T has expanded equipment, with air filtration, heated front seats, a power passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and express up/down front windows now included. The available UConnect hands-free system now includes an iPod interface, the cruise-control stalk has been relocated, LED interior lighting is now available, and satin-chrome bezels and accents have been added to the interior. The line of sound systems has also been revised; the MyGig multimedia entertainment system now has a navigation option, Sirius satellite radio with a one-year subscription is now standard on the SXT model and optional on the SE, and Sirius Backseat TV is now offered for the first time. Both Sirius services include a one-year subscription.Newly available Popular Equipment Packages are available for each trim level. Power-adjustable pedals are now standard on the SXT, xenon HID headlamps are optional on the R/T, and seat-mounted side air bags are now standard on the Daytona R/T model, optional elsewhere in the line.Wheel designs have also been revamped across the entire model line, and in the color palette Dark Titanium Metallic and Light Sandstone Metallic replace Marine Blue Pearl and Silver Steel Metallic.

Model Value: Dodge Charger

The 2008 Dodge Charger stands out from other American mid-size and large sedans for its rear-wheel drive layout, near-ideal weight distribution and, with the V8s, muscle-car performance. The Charger is also quite practical, though, with a smooth ride, good interior and trunk space, and decent fuel-efficiency on V8 models due to the included Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which can temporarily shut down half of the engine's cylinders when they're not needed. The SRT8 model is in a higher league as a bona fide performance model, with acceleration and braking times that are competitive with some of the top sport sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.

Model Overview: Dodge Charger

Dodge's 2008 Charger lineup consists of four different models, each having a different engine underhood and a different appeal based on its equipment and price. First, there's the value-minded base SE, which includes a 186-horsepower, 2.7L V6 engine. Next up is the mid-range, more luxurious SXT model, which gets a 250-horsepower, 3.5L V6. Near the top of the line is the sporty and very well equipped R/T model, which brings the popular and powerful Hemi V8, rated at 335 horsepower and 375 lb-ft. Then for those who want the most performance and exclusivity there's the track-ready SRT8, which includes a 425-horsepower, 6.1L version of the Hemi.SXT and R/T models can be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, though SE and SRT8 models are only available with rear-wheel drive. The SE and SXT rear-wheel drive come with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the rest of the models get a five-speed automatic with Autostick manual control.Option packages for 2008 have been revamped, and most notably there are Popular Equipment Packages that apply to each trim level and bring some of the upgraded equipment from higher trim levels. For instance, the SE Popular Equipment Package includes 17-inch machined aluminum wheels, a power driver's seat, and Sirius satellite radio. On the SXT, the Package includes dual-zone climate control, power heated leather seats, 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, and a 276-watt Boston Acoustics sound system. For the R/T, it brings a 368-watt Boston Acoustics surround-sound system with CD changer and steering-wheel audio controls, a security alarm, garage-door opener, and LED interior lighting. Also of note is the Road/Track Performance Package, which brings more serious performance equipment to the R/T, in the form of 20-inch chrome-clad wheels with performance tires; a sport suspension; load-leveling shocks; performance steering, brakes, exhaust, and induction; performance heated front seats with suede inserts; and front and rear decklid spoilers. At the top of the range is the high-performance SRT8, which includes a 425-horsepower, 6.1L version of the Hemi V8, along with a specially calibrated five-speed automatic that has AutoStick manual control. The SRT8 rides a half-inch lower than other Chargers, and the suspension and ESP stability control system are performance-tunes. SRT-exclusive aluminum-forged 20-inch wheels, a functional hood scoop for added cooling, big Brembo vented brakes, and dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips are also included. Inside, the SRT8 includes special accent stitching, carbon-fiber and leather trim, and LED interior lighting, along with expanded instrumentation. The SRT8 can accelerate to 60 mph in the low five-second range, brake from 60 to zero in about 110 feet, and get to 100 mph and back to a standstill in under 17 seconds, according to Dodge.

Model Strengths: Dodge Dakota

Manageable size; hauling and towing capability; powerful available V8.

Model Changes: Dodge Dakota

For 2008, Dodge's mid-size Dakota pickup gets a new optional V8 that's much more powerful than the one it replaces, yet it is also more refined and fuel-efficient.The Dakota also has been dressed-up with new styling for 2008 inside and out. Exterior changes include a new hood, grille, fenders, and headlamps, plus a protective surface for the cargo-box sides and built-in utility rails. Inside there's a new instrument panel and center console, and new trims and finishes, plus expanded storage areas, including a center console bin for electronics. A heated front bench seat is newly available, and the MyGig Infotainment System, which is already available on some other Dodge models, is now offered on the Dakota.

Model Value: Dodge Dakota

The 2008 Dodge Dakota is one of just a few mid-size pickups, more practically sized for city driving yet almost as capable as the full-size trucks. It offers the only available V8 in its pickup class, and has a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,050 pounds. It is also the only mid-size pickup to offer full-time four-wheel drive, and has the longest and largest standard cargo bed among its competitors, at 6'-6" for the extended cab.

Model Overview: Dodge Dakota

The new 4.7L V8 that's available on the Dakota makes 302 horsepower-a 31 percent increase versus the previous V8-and 329 lb-ft of torque. With two spark plugs per cylinder, an increased compression ratio, a new electronic throttle, and improved airflow, the new engine actually gets improved fuel economy. The V8 is also capable of operating on E85 fuel. The standard 210-horsepower, 3.7L V6 engine is essentially carried over, but it gets a new electronic throttle control and new EGR system for better throttle response and lower emissions.A standard six-speed manual transmission comes with V6 models, with a four-speed automatic optional; V8 models all get a five-speed automatic.A fully boxed, ladder-type frame, with hydroformed main rails for added strength, underpins the Dakota, and an independent front suspension with coil-over-shock arrangement helps yield a good ride. The Dakota is available with either rear-wheel drive or available full-time four-wheel drive with low and high ranges. All Dakota models get new front fascias with integral fog lamps, new rectangular headlamps, redesigned hood and fender surfaces, and protective surfaces around the rim of the cargo box. Inside there's a new look, with a new instrument panel and center console, and fresh materials and trim.Rear anti-lock brakes are standard on the Dakota and electronic stability control is not available. A security package, which includes four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, supplemental side air bags, and full-length side-curtain air bags, is available across the line. There are two body configurations, extended cab and crew cab, and as with most pickups, the Dakota is available in a wide range of models and trims to fit the work environment. The ST isn't as stripped-down as other base-model pickups; it includes air conditioning, tinted rear windows, and an AM/FM/CD sound system with four speakers. SXT models upgrade to popular equipment including 16-inch aluminum wheels, a tilt steering wheel, cruise control, dual rear seats, rear cargo lamps, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. SLT models add more convenience features, such as a sliding rear window with defrost, power seats, an overhead console, rear-seat storage on the crew cab, and "Full Swing" rear doors on the extended cab. The TRX and TRX4 come with 17-inch Rugged Trail tires, tow hooks, and special trim, while the Sport has equipment similar to the TRX but painted silver wheels, bigger on/off-road tires, unique seats, and leather trim. At the top of the range is the Laramie, which adds the V8 and five-speed automatic, along with a chrome grille and trim, automatic headlamps, leather bucket seats, and a premium audio system with steering-wheel controls. Top options on the Laramie include heated seats, leather bench seat, a navigation system, a trailer-towing package, and an upgraded sound system.

Model Strengths: Dodge Durango

Multiple configurations suit all drivers, from urban to rural; strong, aggressive styling in line with the Dodge family look; excellent towing capacity; best-in-the-industry limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

Model Changes: Dodge Durango

Visually, the Dodge Durango is little changed for 2008, though some mechanical updates are worth noting. Most important is a new, next-generation 303-horsepower 4.7L V8, which can run E85 ethanol. Four-wheel-drive models are now available with a single-speed transfer case, which allows drivers to select full-time AWD in addition to four-wheel high and low. All Durangos now come standard with Chrysler's impressive limited lifetime powertrain warranty. Models in Limited trim differ slightly with some new exterior work, and a new Adventurer trim also offers cosmetic differences and a few interior upgrades. Durangos are now available with a rear back-up camera and Chrysler's MyGIG multi-media infotainment system. Pricing has increased marginally across the range.

Model Value: Dodge Durango

Bigger than a small SUV, smaller than a full-size, the Dodge Durango is just right for every need-from those who will never leave asphalt, to those who will never see it. The aggressive styling is distinctly Dodge, and in addition to the standard 3.7L V6 and hefty 5.7L Hemi V8, the new flex-fuel 4.7L V8 makes great sense as a blend of both fuel economy and power, and at 303 horsepower, offers nearly 70 more horsepower than the engine it replaces. The Durango's near-9,000-pound towing capacity with the Hemi is best in the class, and acres of interior room make it a smart choice for hauling people and cargo.

Model Overview: Dodge Durango

The 2008 Dodge Durango is available in several trim packages, including the more basic SXT, the mid-level SLT and Adventurer, and the loaded Limited. All models are available in either two- or four-wheel drive, and in automatics of either four or five speeds.A proven 210-horsepower 3.7L Magnum V6 is standard in the SXT 4x2 and SLT 4x2, while the SXT 4x4, SLT 4x4, Adventurer, and Limited come standard with the new 303-horsepower flex-fuel 4.7L V8, which puts out 330 lb-ft of torque. The 330-horsepower 5.7L Hemi V8 is optional on each of those. As the Durango is primarily a hauler, buyers can get it equipped to carry and pull all sorts of things, with an impressive payload of 1,510 pounds to 1,750 pounds and a towing capacity of 8,950 pounds, with an available five-speed auto with overdrive to match.Base SXTs include air conditioning, cloth bucket seats, power windows, heated fold-away mirrors, 40/20/40 folding rear seat, cargo tie-down loops, and covered storage.Available comfort and convenience options include tri-zone climate control, rear-seat DVD entertainment, hands-free communication, MyGIG multi-media infotainment, and leather seating, while exterior options run the gamut from 18- and 20-inch aluminum wheels to body-color running boards. All Durangos feature standard anti-lock brakes and advanced multi-stage front air bags as well as full supplemental side curtain air bags.

Model Strengths: Dodge Caravan

Innovative Swivel 'n Go interior arrangement; interior versatility; available convenience features; available entertainment systems.

Model Changes: Dodge Caravan

For 2008, the shorter-length Dodge Caravan has been dropped from the lineup, leaving the longer Grand Caravan model, which has been completely redesigned for 2008. The Grand Caravan has an all-new look inside and out, more powerful engines, an innovative Swivel 'n Go seating system, and new entertainment features.

Model Value: Dodge Caravan

As before, the Dodge Grand Caravan-along with the mechanically identical but cosmetically different Chrysler Town & Country-continues to have some of the most innovative features, and the all-new 2008 model stands out for its rethought interior and the new Swivel 'n Go arrangement. Chrysler claims that its minivans are still the only ones to offer a seating system like its Stow 'n Go, which allows both the second- and third-row seats to fold fully into the floor. The automaker also says that the available DVD entertainment system, which can play different media at the same time, is a minivan first. Many of the other features now available on the Grand Caravan, including ambient lighting, heated second-row seats, and sunshades, are yet unavailable on much of the competition.

Model Overview: Dodge Caravan

Two Grand Caravan models are offered for 2008, SE and SXT. The SE is powered by a 3.3L V6 that makes 175 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, while the SE comes with a 3.8L V6 making 197 horsepower and 230 lb-ft. At the top of the engine range is the 4.0L V6, making 251 horsepower and 259 lb-ft.The 3.3L engine can also run on blends of ethanol and gasoline up to E85, which is 85 percent ethanol. The optional 4.0L engine, new for 2008, is made of aluminum and is quite efficient at 16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway.Stow 'n Go seating, which allows both the second- and third-row seats to fold completely into the floor, is included with the SXT model. SE models get a standard second-row bench seat with fold-into-the-floor third row.Making its debut for 2008 is a new arrangement, the so-called Swivel 'n Go, which brings the capability to turn the second row seats 180 degrees, so they're facing the third-row occupants. There's also a removable table that installs between the two rows, to make a small "living room." The arrangement also brings additional storage. It's available as an option on both models. The Grand Caravan continues to offer one of the most useful interiors for stowing and storing small items. All models get dual gloveboxes, the front console slides rearward 21 inches to reach rear passengers, and there's a total of up to 13 cup and bottle holders. The new Grand Caravan has improved aerodynamics, helping to reduce wind noise, while noise, vibration, and harshness levels have been reduced overall due to the use of more high-strength steel and a new suspension geometry.Supplemental side curtain air bags, now with added rollover protection, covering all rows, are standard, along with the ESP stability control system, and anti-lock brakes with brake assist.Grand Caravan SE models come with quite a bit of standard equipment, including air conditioning, keyless entry, and an MP3-compatible CD sound system with four speakers. Dodge's SXT models upgrade to a tri-zone climate system with rear air conditioning, stain-resistant upholstery, cruise control, heated exterior mirrors, fog lamps, illuminated cup holders, ambient lighting, power-adjustable pedals, power rear quarter vent windows, steering-wheel mounted audio controls, a universal garage door opener, a removable/rechargeable flashlight system, swiveling reading lamps, and a six-speaker sound system. There are several innovative entertainment options available. The new Sirius Backseat TV brings streaming video, and the DVD system is capable of playing different media at the same time. There's also a new MyGig Multimedia Infotainment System that brings a navigation system with real-time traffic info and six gigabytes of music storage space good for about 1,200 MP3 songs. The top surround sound system audio system now has nine speakers and 506 watts, a subwoofer, and Sirius satellite radio.Other available options-many of them arranged in packages-include heated first- and second-row seats, retractable sunshades, a power third-row folding seat, a rear backup camera, and remote start. An available Trailer Towing Group includes a host of heavy-duty components and allows a tow capacity of 3,600 pounds.

Model Strengths: Dodge Magnum

Ride and comfort; better-than-expected fuel efficiency; roomy back seat; flexible cargo space; performance to rival big European sport wagons (SRT8).

Model Changes: Dodge Magnum

The Dodge Magnum gets a new look in front for 2008, along with some touches to give the interior a more upscale appearance. The grille has been lowered and stretched horizontally, with added chrome and new detailing around the fog lamps. All-new wheel covers and wheels are offered for the lineup, including optional chrome-clad 20-inchers.Inside, the instrument panel, center console, and door panels have been redesigned, new cloth upholstery adorns the seats, and the cruise control stalk has been relocated to the four o'clock position. The instrument panel, center console, and door panels receive satin chrome bezels, and the armrests, center console, and door trim have been fitted with soft-touch surfaces.Heated front seats, a power passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, express up/down windows, and an auto dimming mirror are all newly standard on the R/T, and remote start and xenon headlamps are available. Power adjustable pedals are now standard on the SXT, and all models but the base model now have air filtration for the climate control system. Also, sound systems have been revamped, Sirius Backseat TV is available, and the MyGig multimedia and entertainment audio system is offered with available navigation. Other options have been regrouped into Popular Equipment Packages. In the palette of colors, Dark Titanium Metallic and Light Sandstone Metallic replace Marine Blue Pearl and Silver Steel Metallic.

Model Value: Dodge Magnum

Essentially a wagon variant of the Dodge Charger sedan, the 2008 Magnum stands out from other sedans and SUVs for its rear-wheel-drive layout, and powerful V8s bringing muscle-car performance. The Charger is also quite practical, though, with a smooth ride, a very roomy back seat, and a flexible layout good for large cargo-space needs. It also has decent fuel-efficiency on V8 models due to the included Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which can temporarily shut down half of the engine's cylinders when they're not needed. The SRT8 model is in a higher league as a bona fide performance model, with acceleration and braking times that are competitive with some of the top sport models from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi-not all of which are available as wagons.

Model Overview: Dodge Magnum

Four different Magnum models are offered, each having a different engine underhood and a different appeal based on its equipment and price. For those who want the most performance and exclusivity there's the track-ready SRT8, which includes a 425-horsepower, 6.1L version of the Hemi.SXT and R/T models can be equipped with an all-wheel drive system, though SE and SRT8 models are only available with rear-wheel drive. The SE and SXT rear-wheel drive come with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the rest of the models get a five-speed automatic with AutoStick manual control. The Magnum's wagon body style affords more flexibility than a sedan, with space for five and a roomy back seat that's also split 60/40 and folds forward to expand the rear cargo area to an impressive 72 cubic feet.New Popular Equipment Packages now apply to each trim level and bring some of the upgraded equipment from higher trim levels. For instance, the SE Popular Equipment Package includes 17-inch machined aluminum wheels, a power driver's seat, and Sirius satellite radio. On the SXT, the Package includes dual-zone climate control, power heated leather seats, 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, and a 276-watt Boston Acoustics sound system. For the R/T, it brings a premium sound system with DVD-compatible six-disc changer and steering-wheel audio controls, remote start, a garage-door opener, and LED interior lighting. Also of note is the Road/Track Performance Package, which brings more serious performance equipment to the R/T, in the form of 20-inch chrome-clad wheels with performance tires; a sport suspension; load-leveling shocks; performance steering, brakes, exhaust, and induction; heated front seats with suede inserts; front and rear decklid spoilers. With the changes, the engine makes 10 more horsepower, for a total of 350 horsepower. The package also includes seat-mounted aide air bags, which are otherwise available as a standalone option.

Model Strengths: Dodge Nitro

Flexible interior; sporty exterior styling; towing ability.

Model Changes: Dodge Nitro

The Dodge Nitro, introduced in 2007, enters its second model year with only a few minor changes. The sporty R/T model gets new two-tone seats, with inserts in a choice of Inferno Red, Electric Blue, or Sunburst Orange. A newly available SXT C Package brings a body-color fascia, fender flares, and body side molding. Also, major options are brought together into several packages, called the Travel Group, Convenience Group, and Premium Sound Package.Safety-wise, a new trailer sway control system is standard in addition to the electronic stability control, and a ParkSense rear park assist system is now available as an option.Brilliant Black, Light Graystone, and Modern Blue are new colors for 2008.

Model Value: Dodge Nitro

The 2008 Dodge Nitro, which is closely related to the Jeep Liberty, appeals to buyers based on its aggressive and unique styling and flexible interior. And especially with the new standard trailer sway control system, it's going to be one of the best compact SUVs for towing.

Model Overview: Dodge Nitro

Dodge's Nitro comes in three different models for 2008-base SXT, mid-range SLT, and the sporty R/T. The SXT and SLT have a 3.7L V6 engine making 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque, while the R/T model has a 4.0L overhead-cam V6 making 260 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. With the 3.7L engine, a six-speed manual is standard with a four-speed automatic optional; a five-speed automatic is the only transmission offered with the 4.0L, though it has Electronic Range Select shift control. All variants of the Nitro are available with either rear-wheel drive or part-time four-wheel drive. The 4WD mode is engaged or disengaged with an in-dash switch. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes are standard on the Nitro, along with ESP electronic stability control, which helps maintain stability on slippery surfaces or in abrupt maneuvers. The Nitro has an independent coil-spring front suspension and solid five-link rear suspension, in a configuration that's capable for trailer towing. SXT models get a suspension tuned more for ride, while SLT and R/T models get a performance-tuned setup that includes a stiffer sway bar, tighter springs and shocks, and 20-inch tires.SLT and R/T models also get chrome detailing around the instrument cluster, steering wheel, center console, and door handles, plus a different gear shift knob. The Nitro's packaging helps get the most out of the compact dimensions, with a fold-flat front passenger seat, fold-flat second-row seats for expanding the cargo space, and, on the SLT and R/T, a Load 'N Go cargo floor that slides 18 inches rearward for easier loading and unloading of heavy items, or grocery bags. The floor system can hold up to 400 pounds. On SXT models there's a reversible cargo floor with available utility table.Noteworthy options on the Nitro include a MyGig Multimedia Infotainment System with a navigation system that now features real-time traffic data; a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, premium audio with a subwoofer, heated leather seats, remote start, Park Sense, and the UConnect Bluetooth hands-free calling interface.

Model Overview: Dodge Ram 1500

The 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 regular-duty pickups are available in a very wide range of models, with several different powertrains, long-box or short-box beds, and single cab, Quad Cab, or Mega Cab styles. ST, SXT, SLT, and Laramie models are offered, with the Laramie being the best-equipped. Each cab style can be equipped with all three trims, except for the Mega Cab, which is only offered as an SLT or Laramie. The standard engine on Ram ST and SXT 4x2 models is a 3.7L Magnum V6, making 215 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque and available with either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Standard on ST 4x4 models and SLT models and available on 4x2 models is the 4.7L V8, now making 310 horsepower and 330 lb-ft. The Laramie gets a standard 5.7L Hemi V8 making 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft. Both of the V8s can be paired either with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The 4.7L V8 has various revisions, such as a new lightweight piston and rod assembly and new valve-lash adjustment system, that make the engine smoother, more powerful, and more efficient. The Hemi comes with the Multi-Displacement (MDS) system, which can shut down four of the cylinders when V8 power isn't needed to increase fuel economy. The Quad Cab has four standard doors and 60/40-split folding rear seats to allow for passengers or cargo. The Mega Cab model is geared toward rear-seat comfort, offering as much space in back as large SUVs would. The Mega Cab's rear seats recline, fold down, and slide forward for flexibility. It also gets a number of changes versus the other two cab styles, including a chromed front fascia and a dual-lamp headlamp system. The Ram has a hydroformed, fully boxed frame, combined with a double-wishbone suspension in front and Hotchkiss-design rear suspension with leaf springs, bringing a setup that gives stability when fully loaded without affecting the ride too much. What's more, isolating body mounts are used to reduce vibration inside, and thick door glass and a Polymer Constraint Layer help keep noise out of the cab.The Ram can tow up to 9,200 pounds when properly equipped, and its gross combined weight rating, for hauling, is an impressive 14,000 pounds.Standard equipment varies vastly depending on the model. ST models come equipped simply but ready for work, with features including air conditioning, a vinyl front bench seat, tilt steering, manual windows, vinyl floor covering, and a four-speaker CD sound system. At the top of the range is the Laramie, which brings dual-zone climate control, steering-wheel audio controls, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, an alarm system, and chrome trim.A Sport Package on the SLT upgrades to styled bucket seats, a body-color front fascia and grille, fog lamps, and big 20-inch chrome-clad wheels. Also of note is the TRX4 Off-Road Group, which adds an anti-spin differential rear axle, off-road wheels and tires, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lamps, and special badging.
