Model Strengths:
Off-road ability; seating space and comfort; available technology and luxury features.
Model Changes:
For 2008, the V6 engine is no longer available in the U.S. market, leaving only V8-powered Land Rover LR3 SE and HSE models. Seven-passenger seating is also now standard across the model line. A power passenger seat is a new standard feature, and the HSE model gets a power-adjustable steering wheel with memory function. New stitching is part of the premium leather upholstery. There's also a new walnut wood trim inside the HSE, along with a black lacquer finish available at no extra charge.
Model Value:
The LR3 is stands out in its class of premium sport utility vehicles with a good mix of tough off-road ability, interior comfort, and a good on-road ride. The Terrain Response allows even novices to get through tough off-road situations. Inside, it offers available appointments-such as second-row heated seats, a heated windshield, and adaptive lighting headlamps-that aren't widely available.
Model Overview:
The Land Rover LR3 is powered by a 4.4L V8 making 300 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque for 2008. The modern aluminum engine has chain-driven overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission, which has a Sport mode for maximum acceleration and CommandShift mode for manual shift control. The permanent four-wheel-drive system uses an infinitely variable locking center differential to vary the torque distribution front-to-back. There's also a low range for steep or challenging off-road situations. A locking rear differential is optional.Supplementing the mechanicals is a wide range of electronic aids. Dynamic stability control helps maintain stability on- or off-road; hill descent control helps with steep descents while off-roading; and the anti-lock braking system includes electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency brake assist.A four-wheel independent suspension underpins the LR3, with unequal-length control arms and air springs with electronic control and three levels of driver-selectable settings, allowing a long range of wheel travel for off-roading yet tight control for on-road handling.Linking all of these systems together is Terrain Response, a system that automatically adjusts and coordinates the LR3's many electronic systems to suit the terrain. The system's five modes are General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl, with the latter only available with low range. With space for seven, the LR3 has three rows of upright seating, upholstered in soft leather. The second and third rows sit high so as to give occupants a view ahead, while the second-row seat is split 35/30/35 to allow sections to be folded forward to expand cargo space, and the third row folds completely down into the floor.Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a power sunroof, and rear park distance control. The HSE model adds larger 19-inch wheels, heated mirrors, bi-xenon headlamps, second-row heating and cooling controls, a Bluetooth hands-free system, walnut wood trim, and a 550-watt Harmon/Kardon sound system with 14 speakers. All LR3s are equipped with front side air bags and side-curtain air bags that cover the first and second rows.Major options include premium leather surfaces, heated first- and second-row seats, a heated windshield and washer jets, an adaptive lighting system, a DVD entertainment system, and a center-console cooler box.

Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: KBB Overview
Although very few sport utility vehicle owners ever take their prized machines off-road, for those who do venture far from pavement it's tough to beat the 2008 Land Rover LR3 lease. Even with its upscale status, the LR3 lease is known world-wide as one of the most capable off-road vehicles money can buy, although those that slog through the Amazon and across the Sahara typically don't have heated leather seats and high-end audio systems. Priced in the low $50,000 range, the LR3 lease borrows a host of technological advances from the larger Range Rover lease and packs them into a plush SUV that is both competent and affordable. A vastly improved quality and service record and improving resale values combine to make the LR3 lease a very competitive luxury SUV.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: What's Significant about this Car?
The LR3 lease receives an eight-way power passenger seat, while a power steering-wheel adjuster is made standard on the HSE lease trim. The base V6 model has been dropped.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Driving Impressions
The LR3 lease delivers a well-mannered day-to-day driving experience. Firm, comfortable seats complement a highway ride that is pleasantly in control -- not jarringly firm or overly soft. This well-balanced suspension also helps make the LR3 lease surprisingly competent on winding mountain roads. Of course, as a Land Rover, the LR3 lease is most amazing when taken past the pavement, and we never came close to the limits of its famously relentless off-road capabilities. In all conditions, the lease LR3's 300-horsepower V8 moves the vehicle eagerly, although we'd like to see a little quicker throttle response when moving from a stop.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Favorite Features
Terrain Response System
Five Terrain Response settings -- General driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Rock Crawl -- make it easy to get maximum performance in a variety of conditions.
550-Watt Surround Sound
The available 14-speaker harman/kardon digital surround system delivers powerful, enveloping sound.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Interior
The interior faithfully conveys the lease LR3's overall balance of luxury and capability. Leather seating is firm but comfortable, the controls are rugged but refined and the lease LR3 is available in either five-passenger or three-row, seven-passenger configurations. Although the third row offers decent room, the seating mechanisms aren't as slick and easy to operate as we've experienced in the competition. In both versions, the rear seats fold flat to create a cargo area more than six feet long. Rear passengers enjoy elevated stadium-style seating, increased stepped-roof headroom and natural lighting with glass roof panels.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Exterior
Viewed from the front, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the 2008 LR3 lease for its big brother, the Range Rover lease . The LR3 lease carries the extreme geometric styling all the way down the sides and around the back, and also has a few details from the former Discovery model it replaced. Trademark styling cues include a stepped roof, large windows and an asymmetric rear tailgate that lowers load height when closed and reduces reach-in distance when open.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Notable Standard Equipment Notable Optional Equipment
Standard equipment on a LR3 SE lease includes a 4.4-liter V8 engine, the innovative Terrain Response System (offering five settings that adjust a variety of electronic factors to optimize the vehicle for the surface over which it's being driven), advanced four-wheel-disc braking system, power sunroof, leather seating, electronic stability control, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, harman/kardon stereo with CD, power driver's and passenger's seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and front, front side-impact and three-row side-curtain airbags. The Cold Climate Package adds heated first and second-row seating, heated windshield washer jets and a heated windshield, while the Technology Package includes DVD navigation, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and Bluetooth. Other options include bi-xenon adaptive headlamps, a heavy-duty suspension package and premium leather upgrade.
Land Rover Lease - LR3 Lease: Under the Hood
Land Rover's lease 4.4-liter V8 packs the power and smoothness we expect from a Land Rover lease , yet delivers EPA fuel economy figures which are nearly as good as those of the discontinued V6.
4.4-liter V8
300 horsepower @ 5500 rpm
315 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 12/17
