Volkswagen Rabbit and GTI leases: Model Strengths:
Convenient hatchback design; standard safety equipment; low price (Rabbit leasing); performance and handling (VW's GTI); fuel efficiency (GTI).

Volkswagen Rabbit and GTI leases: Model Changes:
Both the VW Rabbit and the sporty GTI model see minor changes for 2008. The Rabbit's 2.5L inline five-cylinder engine now makes 170 horsepower, up 20 from last year, and tire pressure monitors are newly standard. The GTI gets revised suspension settings that reduce its ride height by nearly an inch. The Rabbit is now offered in a single trim level, called the S.

Volkswagen Rabbit and GTI leases: Model Value:
The 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit's standard five-cylinder engine is more torquey and responsive than many other rival four-cylinder engines, and the Rabbit offers a wealth of standard equipment, plus more safety features than most other cars in its price range. The GTI models bring perky performance and improved handling to the same practical hatchback body style.

Volkswagen Rabbit and GTI leases: Model Overview:
VW's value-priced 2008 Rabbit, and the performance-oriented GTI are both available in three- or five-door hatchback body styles. A 170-horsepower, 2.5L five-cylinder engine powers the Rabbit; it comes with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, which has a Sport mode. The GTI features a 200-horsepower, 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder engine that, besides bringing better performance than the Rabbit's engine, is also more efficient. It's paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or Direct Shift six-speed automated manual gearbox, and with the manual is rated at 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Both the Rabbit and GTI are front-wheel drive. The Rabbit comes with a wide range of standard equipment for a low-priced small car, including air conditioning, power heated mirrors, cruise control, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and an eight-speaker sound system. An electromechanical steering system helps bring crisp handling and easy maneuverability in parking lots. The GTI comes with a lot of additional performance equipment, and more comfort and convenience items. A sport suspension, special appearance cues, 17-inch alloy wheels and performance tires, alloy pedals, and sport seats bring a performance emphasis. Xenon headlamps, keyless entry, and a ten-speaker sound system are among the included extras. For both the Rabbit and the GTI, VW is generous with standard safety features, too. Front side and full-length curtain air bags, and anti-lock brakes are standard on both, and the GTI adds electronic stability control.

Volkswagen Beetle Coupe and Convertible leases: Model Strengths:
Styling; safety features; front-seat comfort; ride.

Volkswagen Beetle Coupe and Convertible leases: Model Changes:
Volkswagen added a new trim to the 2008 New Beetle lease lineup and renamed the base trim the S. The SE trim is a mid-range offering, and it includes a number of desirable items, most notably 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a sunroof on the coupe. The Triple White Beetle is no longer orderable on the convertible, but it is newly available on the coupe.

Volkswagen Beetle Coupe and Convertible leases: Model Value:
The distinctive Volkswagen New Beetle coupe is no longer a fresh face for 2008, but it still stands out for its spacious front seating, pleasant ride, and abundance of safety features. The convertible is also one of the most affordable drop-tops, and it boasts a very high level of refinement.

Volkswagen Beetle Coupe and Convertible leases: Model Overview:
The stylish 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle is available in S and SE trims, while the coupe is now available in Triple White as well. All New Beetles have a 150-horsepower 2.5L inline five-cylinder engine that is hooked up to a five-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic with Tiptronic. With the manual transmission, the Beetle is quite frugal, with an estimated 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway.New Beetles have a number of standard safety features, including front-seat head/thorax side air bags, anti-lock brakes, and the electronic stabilization program with anti-slip regulation. The New Beetle convertible has a three-layer cloth soft top with a heated rear glass window. Convertibles also add the active rollover support system, which quickly deploys two spring-loaded posts behind the rear-seat headrests to add safety in a rollover situation.Standard features on all New Beetles include height-adjustable front seats, a telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, a six-speaker MP3-compatible sound system, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. All convertibles also include Sirius satellite radio. The SE trim is only available with the six-speed, and it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated washer nozzles, upgraded seats, front floor mats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. On the coupe, the SE trim also includes a power sunroof and Sirius satellite radio, while the convertible SE has a semi-automatic roof system with a wind blocker for reduced highway turbulence. A new Triple White color scheme is available on SE coupes for 2008.Options on the New Beetle are limited for this model year, with heated seats being the only available factory add-on of note.

Volkswagen R32 leases: Model Strengths:
Sporty appearance; eager acceleration; all-weather handling.

Volkswagen R32 leases: Model Changes:
The Volkswagen R32 returns for 2008 after a two-year absence, with an overall package that's similar to the previous-generation R32 offered in the U.S. for 2004 and 2005. This go-fast sporty hatchback based on the Rabbit and GTI is a limited-volume vehicle-only 5,000 are going to be imported.

Volkswagen R32 leases: Model Value:
VW's 2008 R32 looks vaguely like the Rabbit and GTI on which it's based, but there are significant mechanical differences between the cars. The 250-horsepower V6 elevates this VW for lease to compete with compact performance cars like the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Evolution, and with its compact overall dimensions it's very city-friendly.

Volkswagen R32 leases: Model Overview:
A 250-horsepower, 3.2L V6, along with a full range of performance hardware to match the added power, is what gives the 2008 Volkswagen R32 its name and separates it from the Rabbit and GTI. The V6 is matched to the six-speed "DSG" automated manual transmission, which comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Power is delivered through a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system that normally sends 50 percent of power to the front and rear wheels but can send up to 75 percent to the rear wheels when needed. Volkswagen says that the R32 can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. The R32 is differentiated appearance-wise from the GTI on the basis of its lowered, more aggressive stance, unique aluminum grille, flashy 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear roof spoiler, and a flamboyant center-mounted dual exhaust arrangement with dual tips. Inside the R32 gets special metallic trim and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Like the Rabbit and GTI hatchbacks, the rear seatback folds down to expand the cargo space when needed.Standard features include xenon headlamps with washers, rain-sensing wipers, heated leather-trimmed sport bucket seats with lumbar adjustment, automatic climate control, a power sunroof, and a ten-speaker, MP3-compatible premium sound system with six-CD changer and Sirius satellite radio.Options on the R32 are limited to a DVD-based navigation system, and all-weather tires instead of the standard summer performance ones. As with the GTI, front side air bags, full-length curtain air bags, anti-locks, and electronic stability control are all standard.

Volkswagen Jetta Sedan, Jetta Wagon, and Jetta GLI leases: Model Strengths:
Low entry price; safety features including available rear thorax air bags; styling and performance (GLI).

Volkswagen Jetta Sedan, Jetta Wagon, and Jetta GLI leases: Model Changes:
The 2.0T four-cylinder engine is no longer offered on the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta lease line, only on the performance-oriented GLI model, but the Jetta's 2.5L five-cylinder engine now gets a 20-horsepower boost in power, to 170 horsepower. The top-of-the-range SEL model is now offered only with an automatic transmission, and Climatronic climate control and leather upholstery are no longer standard on the SEL or the GLI. A power recline feature for the driver's seat is now standard through the Jetta line. For both models Laser Blue is a new color, replaces Shadow Blue in the Jetta's color palette. Wheat Beige has been dropped.

Volkswagen Jetta Sedan, Jetta Wagon, and Jetta GLI leases: Model Value:
The 2008 Volkswagen Jetta comes well-equipped and value-priced for those who want a small but roomy sedan or wagon, while the VW GLI model is a sophisticated sport sedan that also has strong value-for-money appeal. The Jetta and GLI line is also a safety standout, as one of only a few compact sedans and wagons at any price to offer available side-thorax air bags for rear-seat occupants.

Volkswagen Jetta Sedan, Jetta Wagon, and Jetta GLI leases: Model Overview:
The Volkswagen Jetta sedan comes in three different models for 2008: S, SE, and SEL. The entire line is powered by a 170-horsepower, 2.5L five-cylinder engine, matched either with a five-speed manual gearbox or with a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and sport mode. Top-of-the-range SEL models only offer the automatic. Then there's also the GLI, a performance-oriented sports-sedan model that's powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The GLI also includes a distinctive honeycomb grille, lower-body trim, red brake calipers, large round taillights, dual stainless exhaust tips, special sport seats, an F1-style, flat-bottom steering wheel, and aluminum interior trim. The Jetta sedan can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds with the manual transmission, but the GLI can dash to 60 in only 6.9 seconds. Both engines attain 29 mpg in the EPA highway estimate. On both models, front thorax-protecting side air bags are standard, along with full-length side-curtain bags. Side thorax bags for rear occupants are optional. All Jettas and GLIs also include anti-lock brakes with engine braking assist, and an electronic differential lock for improved traction. SE, SEL, and GTI models get standard electronic stability control. All Jettas come with air conditioning, cruise control, a CD sound system, eight-way adjustable front seats, and tilt/telescopic steering standard. Top SEL models add big 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a sunroof, and a ten-speaker sound system with six-disc changer. Top options include a navigation system and a sport styling kit that gives the Jetta a high-performance look. The same package is available on the VW GLI, along with a special rear wing spoiler and front lip spoiler.

Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon leases: Model Strengths:
Performance relative to other mid-size sedans; safety features and available rear side air bags; fuel efficiency (four-cylinder); cargo space (wagon).

Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon leases: Model Changes:
For the 2008 Volkswagen Passat lease, the six-cylinder VW VR6 model is only available with 4Motion all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission, and the manual transmission is only offered on the Turbo model. A 12-way power driver seat is now standard across the line, along with manual side and rear sunshades. A new alloy wheel design has been introduced for the base Turbo model. Two exterior colors, Wheat Beige and Shadow Blue, have been dropped from the lineup, and the Pure Beige interior has been replaced by Classic Gray.

Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon leases: Model Value:
The 2008 Volkswagen Passat's standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine gives it acceleration that's competitive with many V6 mid-size models while delivering very impressive fuel efficiency of 32 mpg highway. The VW VR6 model, with its all-wheel-drive, feels like a well-rounded, premium-brand sport sedan. Rear side air bags, a feature not widely available on mid-size sedans, are available as an option. And for those seeking more cargo space, the wagon, with its stellar mileage and cargo-hauling ability, is a great alternative to sport-utility vehicles.

Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon leases: Model Overview:
The Volkswagen Passat is available in two different body styles for 2008, a sedan and a wagon; both are offered in four different models: Turbo, Comfort, Lux, and VR6. Turbo, Comfort, and Lux models come with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine making an impressive 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. Turbo models come with either a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic automatic, but Comfort and Lux models are only offered with the automatic. VR6 models get the latest version of Volkswagen's engine of the same name, a 280-horsepower, 3.6L DOHC V6, hooked up to a six-speed automatic and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system for good all-weather traction and good handling balance with the added power.Acceleration is noteworthy with either model. The Turbo model, with the four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual, can get to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds, while the VR6 model can get from zero to 60 in 6.2 seconds. The four-cylinder model pairs this with excellent fuel economy ratings of 23 city, 32 highway. The Passat sedan offers a modest 14.2-cubic-foot trunk, but the wagon has a huge 35.8 cubic-foot cargo space, expandable to more than 61 cubic feet with the split-folding rear seatbacks down. The wagon includes a 12-volt power outlet in back, along with a power-operated hatch. All VW Passats include ESP electronic stability control with electronic differential locking, which helps maintain stability and traction. Anti-lock brakes are also standard and include brake assist for more effective emergency stopping plus a brake-wiping feature to keep them dry in wet weather. Six air bags are standard, including side-impact front air bags and side-curtain bags for outboard occupants. Rear-seat side-impact air bags-a feature that's not widely available-are optional. There's a very wide price range between the base Turbo four-cylinder and the top VW VR6 model, and the standard equipment represents that range. The VW VR6 model comes equipped as a true luxury car, with heated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, park distance control, and a number of interior and exterior extras.Top options on the Passat include bi-xenon headlamps, which can be combined in an option package to include adaptive front lighting, which swivels the headlights by up to 15 degrees, aided by a cornering light that illuminates up to 35 degrees in a turn. The premium audio system, from Danish company Dynaudio, includes eight speakers, a six-disc changer, and steering-wheel audio controls. DVD-based navigation system, adaptive cruise control, and satellite radio are also available.

Volkswagen Eos leases: Model Strengths:
All-weather folding hardtop; luxury features; back seat.

Volkswagen Eos leases: Model Changes:
Volkswagen's Eos convertible enters its second model year for 2008 with new Komfort and Lux trims, and the 3.2T is now called the VR6. The Sport Package has been retired and heated front seats are a new optional on the base model.

Volkswagen Eos leases: Model Value:
The four-cylinder 2008 VW Eos ranks as one of the best bargains among all convertibles for lease, offering a very upscale interior for about the same price as its cruise-oriented competitors. The V6 Eos boasts a host of luxury features that matches premium brand competitors while costing substantially less.

Volkswagen Eos leases: Model Overview:
The 2008 Volkswagen Eos model lineup is composed of four trim levels, from the base convertible hardtop to the VW Eos VR6. The entry-level 2.0T has a direct-injected, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, as do the Komfort and Lux models. The Eos 3.2L upgrades to a 3.2L narrow-angle V6 rated at 250 horsepower and 235 lb-ft. All VW Eos models have front-wheel drive.Instead of using a conventional fabric convertible top, the VW Eos has a sophisticated folding hardtop arrangement that retracts neatly into the trunk in just 25 seconds with the press of a button. What's more, a panoramic sunroof is integrated into the top to allow plenty of light even when the top is up, avoiding the claustrophobic feel that some soft-top convertibles have with the top up.The Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), a cleverly engineered double-clutch transmission, makes no sacrifice in performance versus a manual gearbox and can be driven either in manual mode (with steering-wheel shift paddles) or like an automatic transmission. DSG is standard with the V6 and optional with the four-cylinder engine, while a six-speed manual is standard on the four-cylinder models.Safety features include both side-impact air bags and head-thorax bags along with driver and passenger frontal air bags and an automatic rollover protection system. Anti-lock brakes and VW's electronic stability program (ESP) are also standard. The base Eos comes decently equipped with cruise control, remote entry with alarm, power rearview mirrors with built-in supplemental LED turn signals, and a single-zone automatic climate control, while a dual-zone Climatronic system is standard on Komfort, Lux, and VW 3.2L models. The Komfort trim includes heated windshield washer nozzles and seats, while the Lux trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a park distance control, walnut trim, and a CD changer. Aside from the engine, upgrades on the VR6 include a stiffer suspension, 18-inch wheels, HomeLink, and various bits of trim.A ten-channel, 600-watt audio system by Danish company Dynaudio brings enough power to share your music with the entire neighborhood. A navigation system, an iPod adapter, and xenon headlights are also optional. The Eos has a roomy interior with modest seating for two in back, generous enough for adults for short trips as opposed to the small 2+2 seating that's used in some other convertibles. Since the top stows into the trunk, cargo space measures 10.5 cubic feet with the top up but only 6.6 cubic feet with the top down.Though Volkswagen's Eos isn't overtly a sports car, it offers a peppy, engaging driving experience with plenty of comfort, top-down thrills, and all-weather, everyday versatility. For that it's a strong value.

Volkswagen Touareg leasing: Model Strengths:
Competent off-road ability; high tow rating; plush ride.

Volkswagen Touareg leasing: Model Changes:
The Volkswagen Touareg lease has several changes for 2008. On the exterior, a host of visual changes have affected the front end, with a restyled grille, chrome "eyebrow" trim, a new headlight design, and revised bumpers, mirrors, taillights, and exhaust tips. New wheel designs have been applied as well, and four new colors are available.Inside, there is a larger instrument panel, a new LCD stereo interface, a revamped center console, and the 8-way power adjustable driver's seat is now adjustable in 12-ways. A power liftgate is standard, as is Sirius satellite radio. New options include a Dynaudio sound system, keyless access, and four-zone climate control, and new packages include the VW Lux Package and the Technology Package.

Volkswagen Touareg leasing: Model Value:
The VW Touareg auto for leasing has a luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive off-road capability. The VW V10 TDI engine is a standout for its towing ability and efficiency, while the more powerful V6 and V8 engines improve the performance of the other two models.

Volkswagen Touareg leasing: Model Overview:
The 2008 Volkswagen Touareg for lease is available with three different engines, with the VW 3.6L direct-injection making 280 horsepower, the 4.2L V8 producing 310 horsepower, and the 5.0L V10 TDI diesel achieving 310 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. These ratings make the TDI capable of towing up to 7,716 pounds while keeping relatively impressive EPA fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city, 20 highway. All three engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, which allows manual gear selection, plus the 4XMOTION all-wheel-drive system, oriented for on- or off-road conditions. All Touaregs have impressive approach and departure angles and are designed to handle water up to 22.8 inches deep. With the V6, the Touareg boasts decent acceleration, with 0-to-60 times now of 8.3 seconds, according to the automaker. The Touareg's interior is luxurious but also utility-minded. Rugged leatherette upholstery is standard, and the rear seat is split 60/40 and folds forward nearly flat for expanded cargo capacity. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control, and an electronic differential lock are standard on the Touareg, along with engine braking assist (EBA), which helps maintain stability in steep situations. For steep off-road situations, hill descent control and hill climb assist, two other electronic aids, are standard.A four-wheel air suspension system, which can help maintain an even load when towing or off-roading, is standard on the V10 TDI and optional on the other two models.
