Hummer H3 off-road video

2008 Hummer H3 Off Road
Hummer H3 Model Strengths:

Excellent off-road performance; Hummer appeal for less money.

Hummer H3 Model Changes: Available for the 2008 Hummer H3 is the more powerful 5.3L V8 powertrain with 300 horsepower. This engine is exclusive to Alpha Edition, which also comes with a Monsoon audio system, oversized floor mats, oversized cargo mat, and eight-way power seats. With the Alpha Edition maximum towing is increased to 6,000 pounds.

Hummer H3 Model Value: The 2008 Hummer H3 may be smaller than the H2, but it is no less imposing wherever it shows its massive chrome grille. Physically, it is only five inches shorter, three inches less long, and 1,700 pounds lighter. The H3 less than the H2, making it a real value in Hummer-per-dollar.

Hummer H3 Model Overview: GM introduced the Hummer H3 in 2006 as an entry-level Hummer for the masses. It features styling that is strikingly similar to its older brother, the H2. If it weren't for the H3's broader fender flares the casual spotter might have a tough time telling them apart. The 2008 H3 also shares the H2's off-road prowess. Short overhangs, aggressive approach and departure angles and nine inches of ground clearance help navigate rough terrain. The standard rear axle is a tall 4.56 ratio, and the standard push-button transfer case has a 2.64 crawl ratio. Customers may also opt for an even taller 4:1 transfer case and a full-locking rear axle for extra-slow rock crawling. The H3 is built on GM's Canyon/Colorado platform, but with a sturdier frame and specially tuned shocks. The H3 also features a two-speed transfer case and electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with traction control. The H3 also has the option of riding on enormous LT285/75R16 tires, the largest available on any midsize SUV.The 2008 Hummer shares its 3.7L inline five-cylinder engine with its pickup siblings, and it generates 242 horsepower and 242 ft-lbs of torque. The standard transmission is a five-speed manual, but Hummer does offer an electronic four-speed automatic transmission. The standard suspension setup, the Z85 Handling/Trailering system, should be sufficient for most users. Those looking to test their H3s in the field will be interested in the ZM6 Off-Road Adventure suspension. This option includes a full-locking rear differential, the steeper 4:1 ratio transfer case and special off-road shocks.A number of optional packages can dress up the 2008 H3. the H3X option adds all manner of interior and exterior visual enhancements, while the H3 Alpha option adds a 300-horsepower 5.3L V8, a 4.10 rear axle ratio, and a larger alternator. An Uplevel D?cor option upgrades the front seats to heated power leather. The H3 comes with an array of options including a six-disc CD changer, an audio system with navigation, chromed aluminum wheels, rearview camera system, and a power sunroof.

Hummer H2 Model Strengths: Off-road capability; towing capacity; makes an entrance like no other.

Hummer H2 Model Changes: The 2008 Hummer H2 exchanges its older 6.0L V8 engine for a new 6.2L V8 H2 engine with variable valve timing as the standard (and only available) engine. Horsepower is now 393 at 5700 rpm, up from last year's 325 at 5200 rpm. Torque is now 415 lb ft at 4300 rpm up from last year's 365 lb ft at 4000 rpm. To accompany the new H2 engine is a new six-speed automatic with manual mode shifting via paddles on the steering wheel. On the inside, the H2 receives a fully revised and much nicer interior.

Hummer H2 Model Value: The 2008 Hummer H2, with its 6-foot 7-inch height and 6,614-pound curb weight, makes an impression wherever it shows up, and you're not likely to encounter three other H2s at the local neighborhood four-way stop. The H2's impressive off-road capabilities are courtesy of its monstrous 315-series tires and aggressive approach and departure angles, and its 8,200-pound towing capability keeps up with full-size pickups. The H2's styling and attitude is obviously inspired by the military-style H1, but it costs half as much.

Hummer H2 Model Overview: The 2008 Hummer H2 is built on the four-wheel-drive Chevy Tahoe platform, but with a heavier-duty frame and sturdier suspension components. Its high seating position and imposing stance has the tough-guy appeal of the H1. Two body styles are available: a sport utility body and what Hummer calls an SUT, or a sport utility truck with an open-air 4x6-foot pickup-style bed.Even though the H1 and H2 share the same attitude, the H2 differs significantly from the original military-style H1 in many ways. It features an extensive list of luxury and comfort-oriented equipment. Leather front and rear heated seats are standard as are eight-way power adjustable seats. A standard driver information center monitors fuel economy, vehicle speed history and 23 different vehicle systems such as coolant and transmission temperature, and oil level and pressure. No fewer than six auxiliary 12-volt power outlets are standard throughout the cabin. Added sound insulation makes day-to-day use more comfortable.Remote keyless entry and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard, as is a Bose AM/FM stereo with six-disc CD changer. OnStar with one year of service and XM satellite radio are included.Surprising to some is that the H2 is actually larger than the H1. Off-road capabilities are still impressive, as the H2 can ford 20 inches of water and climb over boulder size pavement chunks with its 9.7-inch ground clearance. Both the H2 and the H2 SUT are available in three grades: Base, Adventure, and Luxury. The Adventure includes an air compressor, air suspension, a first aid kit, rubber floor mats, unique 17-inch aluminum wheels, a tool kit, and a brush guard. The Luxury trim adds a rear entertainment system, rearview camera system, a sunroof, third row seating and a number of chrome enhancements. The 2008 Hummer H2 has grown up with new levels of comfort and convenience, but off-roading enthusiasts needn't be alarmed: it still remains a Hummer at heart.
