Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06: America's answer to Ferrari
2008 Chevrolet Models List
2008 Tahoe Model and Suburban Strengths:
Towing and hauling ability; spacious interior; compliant ride and handling relative to other large SUVs; frugal new Hybrid model.
2008 Tahoe Model and Suburban Changes:
After being completely redesigned for 2007, both the Chevy Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, see only minor changes for 2008. The 40/20/40-split bench seat in LS models gets a new center-section storage space, along with center console wood grain trim and brighter pointers for the gauge cluster. Head curtain side air bags, formerly optional on some models, are now standard on every Tahoe and Suburban. The big news for the Tahoe lineup is the addition of a new Hybrid model. Using GM's new 2-Mode full hybrid system, the Hybrid gets 21 mpg in city driving-a 50-percent improvement versus the standard model. On heavy-duty Suburban 2500 models, StabiliTrak electronic stability control is newly standard, as is a six-speed automatic transmission, and new 17-inch wheels. Two new exterior colors, Blue Granite and Deep Ruby Metallic, join the line.
2008 Tahoe and Suburban Model Value:
Chevy's 2008 Tahoe and Suburban pair sturdy, capable truck underpinnings with more modern, carlike interiors and features, and stand out for their comfortable ride and decent handling. With the addition of the new Hybrid model, those who intend to be green but need to tow trailers or haul heavy loads now have an alternative.
2008 Tahoe and Suburban Model Overview:
The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are lines of full-size sport-utility vehicles that are nearly identical to each other mechanically and cosmetically, but the Suburban is 20 inches longer overall. Both the Tahoe and Suburban are offered in LS, LT, and LTZ models, with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive for each. Suburbans can be specified either as standard-duty 1500 models or heavy-duty 2500 models. The Tahoe can tow up to 8200 pounds, while the Suburban 2500 can tow up to 9,700 pounds, when properly equipped.A 295-horsepower, 4.8L V8 engine is standard on rear-wheel-drive Tahoes; an E85-compatible 5.3L V8 making 320 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque is optional on 2WD models, standard on 4WD Tahoes and Suburban 1500 models. The heavy-duty Suburban 2500 models have a standard 6.0L V8 making 352 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The 4.8L and 5.3L engines all come with a four-speed automatic transmission; the 6.0L gets a new, fuel-saving six-speed automatic. The 5.3L and 6.0L engines also have active fuel management, which cuts off fuel to half of the cylinders in some conditions when full engine power isn't needed. The new Tahoe Hybrid model, which joined the lineup later in the model year, gets a gasoline-only, 5.3L V8, as part of a so-called 2-Mode hybrid system that's capable of powering the Tahoe at low speed on electric power alone; at higher speeds the electric motor system assists the gasoline engine for more efficient accelerating and passing. The Hybrid has eight-passenger seating and can tow up to 6,200 pounds, which matches the towing ability of other Tahoe models.A stiff, fully boxed frame helps provide the structure for heavy hauling and towing and also reduces vibration in the passenger cabin. There's also extensive noise-reduction material used throughout the Tahoe and Suburban inside the headliner, over the engine, in front of the dash, and in door seals.Luxurious LTZ models get a smooth Autoride suspension system, which has two modes of damping-one firmer, one softer-which it can switch between quickly depending on driving conditions.Inside, the Tahoe and Suburban have a sophisticated instrument panel design, with LED backlighting and chrome accents, that's smoother and more carlike in design than most other full-size SUVs.Roof-mounted head-curtain air bags with rollover protection, covering all three seating rows, are standard across the model lines, and StabiliTrak electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes are also included with both models.Standout features available on the Tahoe and Suburban include a remote start system, heated seats for the first and second rows, a power-release fold-and-tumble second row, ultrasonic rear parking assist, a rearview camera system, touch-screen navigation, and an eight-inch rear DVD entertainment system.
2008 TrailBlazer Model Strengths:
Powerful standard I6 engine; available 390-horsepower V8 engine.
2008 TrailBlazer Model Changes:
For 2008, the Chevy TrailBlazer carries over largely unchanged. It does receive a boost in standard equipment in the form of XM satellite radio and side curtain air bags in the front and rear.
2008 TrailBlazer Model Value:
The 2008 Chevy TrailBlazer is a traditional body-on-frame SUV, which makes it attractive to buyers in the market for a mid-sized SUV with towing and off-road capability. The standard 4.2L six-cylinder engine is very capable, and two available strong V8 engines make sure the TrailBlazer can never be accused of being underpowered.
2008 TrailBlazer Model Overview:
The 2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer seemingly provides something for everyone. All trim levels provide a comfortable ride for five passengers, good towing capability, and ample cargo space. There are two trim levels available: LT and the SS. The LT trims come standard with a 4.2L inline six-cylinder engine that makes a healthy 285 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 277 ft-lbs of torque at 4600 rpm. The optional 5.3L V8 engine is available and makes 300 horsepower at 5300 rpm and 321 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm. The 5.3L V8 sports the impressive active fuel management feature that deactivates four of the eight cylinders and propels the vehicle on just four cylinders in instances where extra power is not needed. The transition from eight to four cylinders and back is virtually undetectable and helps boost fuel economy.Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, power windows and locks, OnStar, cruise control, air conditioning, a CD player with XM satellite radio, and StabiliTrak stability control system. The LT trim adds features such as a roof rack, fog lamps, power mirrors, power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and automatic dual-zone climate control. For those wanting a sporty SUV, the TrailBlazer offers its SS trim level in either 2WD or AWD versions. The SS TrailBlazer includes a sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, heavy duty front disc brakes, a limited-slip rear differential, quicker ratio steering, and the Corvette-based LS2 6.0L V8 engine, as well as other changes. These enhancements create an aggressive look outside and some serious acceleration with sub six second 0-60 mph times. Power reaches 390 horsepower 6000 rpm and 400 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm.Notable options on all trim levels include a rear seat DVD entertainment system, Bose premium speaker system and power sunroof.
2008 Corvette Model Strengths:
Supercar-caliber performance; flashy looks; racing-derived equipment (Z06).
2008 Corvette Model Changes:
The Chevy Corvette gets extensive mechanical changes for 2008, including more powerful engines for both the standard model and the top-performance Z06, plus improved transmission action and steering feel. Also, a new 2.73 performance axle ratio is available with the six-speed paddle-shift automatic or included with the Z51 package.Several new wheel designs are offered-with an optional Competition Gray finish for the standard ones-while inside Cyber-pattern or brushed aluminum trim accents and a newly available Leather-Wrapped Interior Package in Linen or Sierra colors bring a different appearance. OnStar and XM Satellite Radio are now standard, and an auxiliary audio input for MP3 players is now standard on all sound systems except with the optional navigation system. Two new exterior colors join the Corvette lineup for 2008: Jetstream Metallic Tintcoat and Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat.
2008 Corvette Model Value:
Chevrolet's 2008 Corvette coupe and convertible are flashy, fast sports cars, yet they're comfortable enough to drive daily in fair-weather places. The Corvette Z06 especially is one of the best-performing cars in the world, and makes various race-proven design features available in an affordably priced production vehicle. Relative to its performance rivals, all well over $100,000, the Z06 is a downright bargain at a touch over. The Corvette's various improvements and across-the-line power boost for 2008 make it an even better value.
2008 Corvette Model Overview:
The Chevrolet Corvette gets more power for 2008. The new version of the standard aluminum-block V8 in the Corvette coupe and convertible models now displaces 6.2 liters and is rated at 430 horsepower-30 horsepower more than last year's 6.0-liter engine-and 424 ft-lbs of torque. The engine gets a number of design changes, including a new intake manifold that yields a more refined sound. It can be matched with either a six-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic with paddle-shifters beside the steering wheel. The automatic has quicker shift times; Chevy says that it makes this year's model the fastest automatic Corvette ever, with a 0 to 60 time of 4.3 seconds when equipped with the new Z51 package and 2.73 axle ratio. Top speed is now 190 mph.A new two-mode exhaust system, similar to that which has been offered on the Z06, is now available on the standard Corvette models; it allows quiet operation during low-speed driving, but opens up to optimize performance (and provide a more aggressive sound) when needed. It also adds six horsepower. The Corvette comes with three suspension choices, which allow it to be everything from a comfortable grand-tourer to an edgy, track-ready machine. The standard suspension is tuned for a balance of comfort and performance. Next up is the Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension, which uses sophisticated electronics and magnetically reactive fluid-filled dampers to provide a comfortable ride but tighten its responses when needed. At the top is the Z51 Performance Package, which brings the most aggressive setup, including larger stabilizer bars, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT tires, cross-drilled brake rotors, and enhanced cooling. On all models, steering has also been revised for improved feel. The more exclusive Z06 version stands at the top of the Corvette line, with performance that bests many exotics costing several times as much. Its 7.0L V8 makes 505 horsepower to propel a car that weighs only 3,132 pounds, bringing astounding acceleration, braking, and grip. The Z06 can accelerate to 60 mph in only 3.7 seconds, reach 198 mph, brake from 60 in only 111 feet, and draw a maximum lateral acceleration of 1.04 g-all very respectable figures. The Z06 matches this performance with heavy-duty components-many of them developed from racing experience-built to stand up on the racetrack, including a dry-sump oil system, titanium connecting rods and intake valves, CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads, and hydroformed exhaust headers. A six-speed manual is the only transmission offered.A unique, aluminum body underpins the Z06, with perimeter rails and composites used for strengthening. The engine is mounted on a unique magnesium cradle; carbon-fiber front fenders also help cut weight.Besides getting a firmer suspension and larger wheels, the Z06 gets a very distinctive brake setup, with red-painted six-piston calipers that actually use six brake pads each; a four-piston setup is used in back. The Active Handling stability control system, which allows enthusiastic driving yet can aid safety, is also standard on all Corvettes; the Z06 brings a Competitive Driving Mode. The Corvette convertible includes a power-folding soft top with five-layers of fabric for reduced noise and good isolation. On all Corvettes, a CD audio system with audio input jack is standard; a Bose audio system with steering-wheel audio controls and a six-disc changer is optional.
2008 Equinox Model Strengths:
Flexible, roomy interior; maneuverability; standard V6 in a compact SUV.
2008 Equinox Model Changes:
For 2008, the new Chevy Equinox Sport gets a 264-horsepower, 3.6L V6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, sport-tuned suspension, and unique interior appointments. There's also a new Equinox LTZ that sits above the existing LS and LT models in the pecking order. The LS and LT get a retuned suspension, and electronic trailer sway control is now integrated with StabiliTrak and is standard across the line.Three new exterior colors are offered: Navy Blue Metallic, Black Granite Metallic, and Golden Teal Metallic.
2008 Equinox Model Value:
The 2008 Chevrolet Equinox is one of only a few compact sport utility vehicles with a standard V6 engine, and it also stands out for its flexible and well-designed interior. It ranks as one of the more affordable compact SUVs in LS or LT trim, and with the new electronic trailer sway control, it's one of the better-equipped small SUVs for light-duty towing such as a small boat or pop-up trailer.
2008 Equinox Model Overview:
The Equinox comes with a standard 3.4L overhead-valve V6 engine, making 185 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The top Sport model gets an exclusive powertrain-a 264-horsepower, 3.6L DOHC V6 and six-speed automatic. Each of the four Equinox models-LS, LT, LTZ, and Sport-are available either with front-wheel drive or with an all-wheel-drive system that sends some of the power to the rear wheels when front slippage is detected. The new 3.6L engine offered on the Sport, together with the six-speed transmission, which allows gains in both performance and efficiency, can bring the Equinox to 60 mph in less than seven seconds. The Equinox has a roomy interior with seating for five adults. The Multiflex rear seat is split 60/40 and will fold forward to extend the cargo space; it can also slide nearly eight inches fore or aft, and the front passenger seat folds forward for long items. With the back seat all the way forward and the seatbacks still up, there's an impressive 67.1 cubic feet of cargo space. The base Equinox LS includes many of the expected convenience features, including keyless entry, air conditioning, tilt steering, a rear wiper and defogger, the flexible seating arrangement, and power windows and locks. The new, more luxurious LTZ model stands out with 17-inch bright chrome-clad alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and chrome luggage rack trim, plus a number of additional features inside including heated front seats, leather seat trim, and a sound system with six-disc changer. The StabiliTrak stability control system-now with electronic trailer sway control, to help restore stability caused by improper weight balance or excessive speed while towing-is standard across the line. Head curtain air bags are standard on the LTZ and Sport but optional on the LS and LT.At the top of the range, the Sport model gets new heated seats with firmer side bolsters and available perforated leather, plus a revised instrument panel, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, and a special J-gate shifter design, which enables the driver to manually tap up or down to shift gears. On the outside, the Sport gets 18-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels, along with body-colored front and rear fascias and chrome trapezoidal exhaust outlets.Noteworthy options for the Equinox include a power sunroof, Pioneer seven-speaker audio system, and heated leather seats.
